Local Scouts - At the Scene of the Grime! - Spratley's Charity Car Wash - Saturday 1 May 2010

The Burghfield and Sulhamstead Scouts transformed the Spratley's of Mortimer Forecourt into a car wash/café on Saturday May 1; they washed cars and served hot drinks, cakes and
bacon sandwiches while the customers waited for their vehicles to be foamed,
scrubbed and cleared of any volcanic ash deposits.

In just a few hours, they managed to raise an amazing £300; that’s a lot of cars (at £5 per car)… The event was very well supported by the local
residents, including the local constabulary who were only to happy for their patrol car to be cleaned.
Spratley’s also helped to drum up business for the
scouts by inviting their all their customers along to the event who came from
far and wide to support the scouts (upon hearing of the event - one former
Mortimer resident and Spratley’s customer came all the way from Church
Crookham just to have his car washed!) “When I heard about the car wash, I
decided that I would come back to my roots to support the local scouts – and I
am pleased to say, they did a good job too!”)

Speaking about the event Paul Spratley, a Director at Spratley’s said
“Spratley's has been an intrinsic part of the local community since 1908 and
over the years we have built up close links with a number of local charities
and organisations. One such organisation is our local scout group, and, when
they asked for our assistance in running a charity car wash to help them raise
money for their trip - we were delighted to help. I am pleased that it
was a success for them, and have already been asked by some of our
customers if this is likely to be a regular event!”
Spratley's of Mortimer would like to thank all of their customers who came to support the event.
